Hello and Happy New Year! Hopefully your tax collections have gone smoothly…As we start the new year, I wanted to reach out and check in.
We mentioned at the fall conference the email listserv program for the treasurers. Well, that is ready to go. Watch for an email from Cindy Hegglund, our executive secretary, with instructions on how to sign up and start communicating with your fellow treasurers. We have partnered with APTUS&C to provide this program, but you do not need to be a member of APTUS&C to sign up for the MTAW listserv. I’d like to send a huge THANK YOU to Barb Hendricks, who initiated talks to get this started. You can also sign up by following this link: https://aptusc.memberclicks.net/mtaw-e-list#!/
Kathy Morse is starting the process of filling committees for the 2023-2024 year. We also need a President-Elect and Vice President, along with district directors. You can find information on these positions on the MTAW website in the green footer section on the home page – MTAW Officers and Committee Manual. Please consider serving your organization. As a bonus, you earn points toward certification. You can contact Kathy at email@example.com or me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Consider reaching out to new treasurers in your area and telling them of the benefits of joining the Municipal Treasurers of Wisconsin:
- Receive news and legislative updates on MTAW Facebook and website
- Training opportunities:
- At two conferences per year
- Day conferences from the different districts
- The UW-Green Bay Treasurers Institute
- Connection to trainings from other organizations
- New clerks can sign up to receive a mentor. Experienced clerks can be that mentor and pass along their years of knowledge.
- The ability with our new email listserv to ask questions of other treasurers across the state
- Volunteering to participate on committees or the board and give back to the organization, meet other members and have fun
- Training and volunteering earn points towards becoming a Certified Municipal Treasurer of Wisconsin, which can be used to further your career
- And possibly the most important is networking with fellow treasurers. You will gain life-long friends.
Don’t forget the spring conference April 27 & 28 in Elkhart Lake at the Osthoff. It is our 50TH ANNIVERSARY, and I know the committee is hard at work to make it an outstanding conference. Information will be sent out soon. Keep watch, spread the word, and we hope everyone can join us.
Finally, I wish everyone a safe and healthy new year, and feel free to contact me at any time with questions, concerns, comments, suggestions.
Linda Kuhlman, CMTW, WCMC
Municipal Treasurers Appreciation Week 2022 proclamation from Governor Evers.
Greetings from your 2021-22 MTAW President Barbara Hendricks!
Fall is here…crisp nights, pumpkin spice, festive colors and our fall MTAW conference.
The conference “Sailing off into the Future” was informative, a great networking opportunity and a chance to make new friends. I would like to thank the 2021 Fall Conference committee for all of their hard work. Congratulations on a job well done. Thank you to all who participated in the 50-50 raffle – we raised $500.00 to be put towards our 50th Anniversary celebration in spring of 2023. Our next conference will be held in Lacrosse, Wisconsin at the Radisson April 28 & 29th, 2022 – “The Great Escape.”
I am currently looking for one more person to join our Fall 2022 conference committee and we are now recruiting members to help with the MTAW 2023 spring conference committee. The spring 2023 conference will be our MTAW 50th Anniversary. Kathy Morse has graciously accepted the chair position and will be your point of contact if you wish to be on the committee.
Members are encouraged to become actively involved in the organization. This can be accomplished through participation in one of the many committees that serve the membership. Being on a committee is a great way to build experience points towards your certification, forming networking contacts and growing lifelong friendships. If you are interested in joining a committee or being a part of the MTAW board, please contact the MTAW President Elect Linda Kuhlman.
Contact information for MTAW members can be found on the MTAW website under the member hub in the member directory. I encourage everyone to visit the MTAW member directory and make sure your information is current. The information on the website is your key to growing our profession.
Thank you to the outgoing President Deb Winter, we wish you well in your future endeavors. I’m looking forward to serving the MTAW organization. Working together we will continue to grow our organization, explore new adventures and strengthen our profession as Municipal Treasurers.
Stay well and enjoy the fall harvest!!
Barbara Hendricks CMTW
What a crazy, crazy year it has been in all aspects of our lives!! Who would have thought a year ago, that we would have to decide to hold our first ever virtual conference? But here we are and there is a light at the end of this tunnel, and we will all make it through!!
I want to thank everyone for the opportunity to serve as your President this year. While the association was unable to hold last spring’s and last fall’s conferences, and I was unable to experience the full scope of the president’s position, it was still a rewarding and learning experience for me. Serving on the Board and/or chairing a committee is a fantastic way to immerse yourself in MTAW and truly understand all the hard work and dedication that goes on behind the scenes. I am grateful for every one of the Board members, District Directors and Committee Chairs I had the pleasure of working with this year. I am handing the torch over to your new President Barb Hendricks, who I am confident will serve this organization well in the year to come.
I hope you were able to attend the Spring Conference. The conference committee did a fantastic job in pulling together a virtual conference with no template to follow. I also sincerely hope to be able to see everyone face to face at the fall conference in Manitowoc. I wish you all a safe, healthy summer and thank you for being a member of MTAW.
Message from the MTAW Outgoing President, Barb Guckenberger:
I want to thank you for the opportunity to have served as your President for this past year. It has been one of the greatest experiences in my career and I was honored to represent MTAW in such a capacity. I only hope that I have met most of your expectations and look forward to serving as Past President for 2020-2021.
I have said it before but it is worth repeating: the current board members/past Presidents that I have served with are truly what makes this organization successful. So, a big thank you to each and every one of them for all of the hard work that ensued during my term as President. We accomplished a lot and we could not be the successful and professional organization that we are without all of their collaborative efforts. This has been a stressful past few months for everyone and I am so proud of how Treasurers pull together to support each other in time of need and still fulfill their duties!
As you know, the 2020 Spring Conference had to be cancelled due to the Governor’s orders. The MTAW Annual meeting has been postponed to the Fall 2020 Conference so those items will be reported to the members at that time. However, the board was able to hold the Spring board meeting via Zoom to conduct necessary business. During the meeting, we approved a new slate of Officers and Directors so I have officially turned over the MTAW President torch to Deb Winter. Congratulations to Deb; I know she will serve this fine organization well.
I wish you all a safe and healthy summer and I look forward to seeing you in the fall!
